Description This is an early version of the grey-and-brown Buccaneer shown here. It was originally painted entirely in metallics, as an entry into a No Quarter Magazine painting contest.
I had a very specific image in mind when painting the net - oiled metal, glinting with colours from where the oil had mixed with water. I like the way the carapace turned out, with rust and patina gathering around all the rivets. Unfortunately, I had to paint over all that detail when I changed the colour of the armour plates...
